7th Grade Baseball Travel to Pocahontas

The 7th Grade ball club for SV traveled to Pocahontas, Wednesday, June 12th and played a complete 5 inning baseball game, winning by the score of 16-5.

Tucker Ollinger and Josiah Hefley were the battery mates to start out the contest, with Ollinger pitching four complete innings. Ollinger ended with 6 strikeouts and allowed 6 hits. Pocahontas hit the ball hard, and every time they did, Ollinger was able to shake it off and move on to the next batter, usually starting out on top with a strike. Kinnick Meyer also threw an inning in the game, allowing only one hit and striking out the last batter for the third out.

Ethan Tucker, Ollinger, and Hefley all scored multiple times in the contest, with Helfey reaching home plate four times in five innings. Hefley also added two doubles and three runs batted in. Jameson Bernau had an outstanding at bat in the third inning, roping a double to right-center and drove in two Jaguars runners to push the score to 14-2 midway through the game. Jackson Bintz went 1-2 with the bat and drove in a season best 2 RBI for his efforts as a starter. Others scoring for the team were Meyer, Bachel, Carter Lloyd, and Brock Norine.

Defensively, the Jaguars also turned two double plays in the game; both starting at the shortstop position. The first double play ball came when the Indians were making a rally of their own, with three runs scored in the third inning and only one out on the board. A hard hit ball to Ethan Martin at Shortstop, Martin kept it himself and got the force at 2nd base and made an excellent throw to August Akins with a solid first baseman's stretch to get out of the inning. The second double play ball came in the bottom of the 5th inning, with no outs recorded. A hard hit ball, lined back up the middle was eyed in by Ollinger, now at SS, and he touched the bag at 2nd base to get the runner out stealing.

Overall, it was a solid baseball game all around. Both teams hit the ball hard, and moved runners; pitchers pitched and threw strikes, and defensive plays were made in the field.
