SVSB vs. Coon Rapids Bayard 7/3/2024

The Jaguars welcomed the Crusaders from Coon Rapids Bayard to Harcourt on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup and to celebrate the five seniors on this year’s team. The Jaguars defeated Crusaders by a score of 13-2 after five innings of play.

Junior Chloe Lambert started in the circle for the Jags and had a great showing on the mound. Lambert faced 26 batters, only allowing five hits and two unearned runs while retiring the rest and striking out four.

Despite finding themselves down 0-1 after one inning of play, the Southeast Valley offense was electric, seeing hits off the bat of each and every player in the lineup starting in the second inning. While the scoreboard was lit with two outs and the Jags down 0-1, senior Alex Kitchen stepped up to the plate and evened the score at 1-1 with one swing of her bat, going yard over the right field fence. The momentum carried over into the third inning seeing the Jags plate two more runs to give them the lead, 3-2. Ellie Nolte would lead off the inning with a single and advance to third after two passed balls by the Coon Rapids catcher. Nolte would be brought in after another single from Chloe Lambert. Lambert would reach third on a hard hit single from Jordyn Rowley and would eventually be brought around to score on a single from Rian Schlief. The Jaguars were not satisfied with a 3-2 lead and lit up the scoreboard in the fifth plating ten runs on seven hits. The inning started with a lead off single from Lambert followed by back to back to back singles from Rowley, Schlief and Leilah Olson. Olson’s single would bring Lambert and Rowley in to score and put Schlief at third. With runners on the corners, Lauren Eslick would step into the box and earn her way to first, loading the bases, after being hit by her 12th pitch of the season. Alex Kitchen stepped up to the plate and got her second hit of the game, plating three (Schlief, Olson, and Eslick). Kenna Scott and Ellie Nolte kept the bats hot, each singling to load the bases for Camryn Lane. Lane would walk, bringing Scott into score . Chloe Lambert stepped in for her second at bat of the inning and roped her fourth hit of the night to the left side, plating Nolte while Jordyn Rowley would earn an RBI herself after scoring Lane from third. The final runs of the game would be brought in off the bat of senior Leilah Olson who smoked a line drive to center field plating both Lambert and Rian Schlief (who reached base after earning a walk).

The senior class has seen great success throughout their tenure in the Southeast Valley program, but had an exceptional performance on their senior night. The five seniors for Southeast Valley are Ellie Nolte, Kenna Scott, Leilah Olson, Jordyn Rowley, and Alex Kitch. The group combined for 11 hits, seven runs, and nine runs batted in on the night.

The Jaguars wrap up regular season play in Webster City on Monday night with a JV/Varsity contest with the Lynx before starting tournament play on the 11th in Harcourt.
