Jags Softball SVSB @ PAC 6/10/2024

The Southeast Valley softball team opened the week with a road win against the Pocahontas Area Indians on Monday night (June 10) by a score of 4-3. The Jags played a complete seven innings and earned a team win seeing seven out of nine batters reach base. The win brings the Jaguar record to 4-1 in conference play and 9-3 overall.

The action started in the first inning when junior Chloe Lambert got things started by hitting a solid single past the Indian second baseman to give the Jags the first base runner of the game with two outs on the board. Following Lambert’s single, senior Jordyn Rowley continued her hit streak, smacking a double to the right center gap, moving Laila Christopherson (running for Lambert) to third putting two in scoring position. Sophomore Rian Schlief stepped into the box and effectively traded places with Rowley, plating two runs in the process. The Jags would be up 2-0 after their half of the first, but the lead would be short lived. Pocahontas managed to score two of their own, knotting the score and 2-2 after one complete inning of play. The score would remain tied until the Indians gained the lead in the fourth going up 3-2, but the Jags hadn’t emptied the tank and had more in store for the Indians. The Jags needed to produce baserunners and they did just that in that fifth inning. Sophomore outfielder Brooke Peterson started the inning at the plate and produced a well hit single to center field to give the Jags the much needed runner. Senior Kenna Scott would reach first safely after the PAC second baseman fumbled a hard hit single, advancing Peterson to third. Scott would steal in order to place two Jaguar baserunners into scoring position for Chloe Lambert. Lambert’s bat continued to stay hot and she fired a single back at the Indian pitcher, with this hit, the pitcher’s attention went to Peterson at third who was forced into a run-down situation. After an exciting pickle situation, Peterson, Scott, and Lambert would all find themselves safely on base, loading them for Rowley. After seeing two balls, Rowley came through for the Jags with her second double of the game, scoring both Peterson and Scott to give the Jags the lead back.

The defense of the Jags held strong through the sixth and seventh innings to hold off the Indians in order to put this game in the win column with a score of 4-3. It was a tremendous game on both sides of the ball by the entire lineup. Chloe Lambert was the winning pitcher in the circle for Southeast Valley. Lambert threw all seven innings, facing 31 batters and striking out six.

The Jags continue their quest for conference wins against the Raiders from East Sac County on Wednesday in Harcourt starting with JV at 5:30 followed by varsity at seven o’clock.
