The Southeast Valley softball team lost a heartbreaker in Ruthven on Wednesday night, falling to the Titans by a score of 5-6 in a back and forth conference game; with the loss, the Jags are now 12-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Offensively, the Jaguars were led by junior Chloe Lambert. Lambert was 2-4 in the box, reaching safely three times and scoring twice. In the first inning, Lambert roped a triple over the center fielder’s head and scored on a single hit up the middle off the bat of Jordyn Rowley. Lambert also hit a solid double, again to center, and reached third safely on the error by the center fielder and scored on the SAC fly hit by Jordyn Rowley. Fellow junior Lauren Eslick and sophomore Rian Schlief were also .500 on the night against the Titans. Eslick hit a single in the second and a double in the fourth, scoring on an RBI off the bat of Brooke Peterson. Rian Schlief had two singles on the evening coming in the first and third innings with an RBI in the third. The Jaguar offense saw many opportunities, but were unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position, leaving ten runners on base throughout seven innings of play.

On the defensive side, the Titan defense would prove to be too much to handle for the Jags. GTRA hit gaps and took advantage on the base paths, using their speed and ball placement to advance and score runners. Junior Chloe Lambert started in the circle for the Jags and threw five innings. Lambert faced 22 batters, giving up only three runs while allowing six hits. Rian Schlief would step into the circle with the game tied at five a piece and threw two complete innings. Despite her best efforts and an error free defense behind her, the Titans capitalized to win the game over the Jags 5-6. Schlief faced nine total batters and gave up one unearned run.

The Southeast Valley softball team has to have a short memory in order to bounce back from back to back conference losses and they look to rebound against the Cadets from Iowa Falls-Alden in Iowa Falls on Thursday night starting with JV at 5:30 in the evening.
