Jags Softball Ends Week With the Win

June 10, 2022

The Jaguar softball team ended their week of games on a high note after defeating the Warriors from Alta-Aurelia by a score of 12-7 and remain undefeated in Twin Lakes conference play. The win brings the Jags’s overall record to six wins and six losses on the season.

The pitching duo of freshman Chloe Lambert and junior Maddie Vansickle proved to be a force to be reckoned with on the mound. Together they faced 37 batters, and combined to allow just seven hits and zero earned runs; Lambert struck out four while Maddie struck out two.

The bats were alive and hitting was contagious for the Jags in the batter box. In the first inning, sophomore catcher Jordyn Rowley got the ball rolling for the Jags by smacking a double in the left-center gap. Maddie Vansickle would score Rowley on a single, but that would be it for the Jags through the fourth inning. Shea Peterson did a tremendous job on the mound for the Warriors, keeping the Jaguar bats at bay for three innings, but in the fifth, the Southeast Valley bats came alive when sophomore Alex Kitchen started the fifth inning with a hard hit single on the right side. Chloe Lambert would move Kitchen to second, putting two on the bases without any outs for sophomore Leilah Olson. Olson hit a blooper to the right fielder, moving Kitchen to third. Freshman Lauren Eslick singled to load the bases for the Jags. Back to back to back singles from Ellie Nolte, Kenna Scott, and Jordyn Rowley would plate four for the Jags and eighth grade right fielder Rian Schlief would bring in one run herself to put the score in favor of the Jags. The sixth inning would bring five more insurance runs for the Jags. Olson and Eslick singled and Ellie Nolte battled in the box to win the walk from Peterson, loading the bases for Jordyn Rowley. Rowley would, again, single up the middle, scoring Olson from third, Eslick from second, and Nolte from first.

The seventh inning would make for an exciting inning for the Warriors as they plated four runs of their own, causing the young Jaguar defense to commit errors, however the insurance from the sixth was enough for the Jags to put this one in the win column.
