Jag Softball On the Short End After Extra Innings
Southeast Valley softball lost a heart breaker in extra innings on Thursday night against the Algona Bulldogs by a score of 3-4.
The Jags would again jump on top in the first inning. A leadoff single from senior Ellie Nolte got things started and with fellow senior Kenna Scott moving her into scoring position at second, Chloe Lambert stepped up to the plate and brought Nolte home on a line drive single in the right-center gap. Despite getting runners on, the Jags would not score again until the seventh inning. The bottom of the lineup showed poise with productive at bats to keep the Jags alive in their half of the seventh. With the score 1-3 in favor of the Bulldogs, senior Leilah Olson started the inning off by reaching first after being hit by a pitch. Olson would reach second safely and sophomore Brooke Peterson would reach first on an error by the Algona second baseman. Ellie Nolte would again single in the seventh to load the bases for the Jags. Kenna Scott would lace a hard hit ball to the short stop, unfortunately though, Peterson would be called out for interference. With one out on the board, and the bases still loaded for the Jags, Chloe Lambert stepped into the box. Lambert would tie the game up after obliterating a double over Algona’s left fielder scoring both Olson and Nolte. The Jags would end the inning with the score tied at three runs a piece.
The defensive effort wasn’t lacking for the Jags, but in the bottom of the eighth defensive miscues would cost the Jags the victory.
Southeast Valley Softball now holds a record of four wins and three losses on the season and look to end their week with a win over the Manson Cougars on Friday night in Harcourt.
