SVSB @ St. Mary's 6/14/2024
The Jaguar softball team traveled to Storm Lake to end their week of competition for a conference matchup against the Panthers from St. Mary’s. The Jags walked away with their fourth victory of the week and 12th overall, taking down the Panthers by a score of 7-2. After the win, Southeast Valley holds an overall record of 12 wins and three losses and a conference record of six wins and one loss.
In the match-up with the Panthers, the Jags would wait to score until the second inning. Sophomore Rian Schlief got the offense rolling with a lead off single, and advancing herself to second on the wild throw from the defense. Schlief would manage to score herself resulting from two passed balls on the St. Mary’s catcher. In the third inning, it would be senior shortstop Ellie Nolte mirroring Schlief’s second inning performance. Nolte roped a double herself over the center fielder’s head and eventually scored on two passed balls herself. The fourth inning was quiet for Southeast Valley, but the fifth inning would see two Jags cross the plate. Sophomore Brooke Peterson would be the lead off for the fifth inning and she would reach on a single hit up the middle of the field. After stealing second, she would be put into scoring position for Ellie Nolte who again made good use of her at bat, hitting a solid single of her own, splitting the middle of the diamond while bringing Peterson home. Nolte would stand alone on the bases, but made quick work reaching third after a pair of passed balls. Jordyn Rowley would step up with two outs on the board and record her only hit of the game, a double smashed to center field, plating Nolte for the Jaguars fourth run of the game. The Jags would put their final three runs of the game on the board during the top half of the sixth inning starting with sophomore Camryn Lane laying down a bunt single and stealing second to put one in scoring position for the Jags. She would reach third after tagging on a long fly ball hit off the bat of senior Leilah Olson and she would eventually cross home resulting from a well placed hit from fellow sophomore Brooke Peterson. Peterson’s hit would land perfectly in right field, earning her a triple and an RBI from her third at bat. Ellie Nolte would plate Peterson with her third hit and her second double of the game. Senior second baseman Kenna Scott would bring Nolte home after hitting a double of her own down the first base line, but unfortunately, Scott would be left stranded on the bases and the Jags would not score again in the game.
Junior Chloe Lambert got the start and threw the complete game for the Jags. Lambert faced 27 batters and retired eight via strikeout while walking just two and giving up only three hits.
The Jaguars end the week with confidence going into a busy week starting with conference rival Newell Fonda (ranked 9th overall in class 1A) on Monday evening in Harcourt for a JV/varsity match up starting at 5:30 P.M.
