Girls Basketball

JHGBB 11/28

The junior high girls basketball team has been busy with two road games and one home contest since November 21st.

On the 21st, the Jags traveled to Madrid to battle with the Tigers. The 8th graders started things off with a win. In the first half, the game was a defense battle with neither team producing a lot on offense, but that narrative changed in the second half when the Jags were able to get their shots to fall. Team defense has been the key to success for this team and they do it well. In the 7th grade game, the girls fought hard, but were unable to put a stop to an electric and contagious Tiger offense and the 7th grade team fell by a score of 10-32.

The Monday following their Thanksgiving break, the Jags were on the road again; this time they loaded the bus and traveled to Newell to take on a highly skilled and talented Mustang squad. Despite their best efforts on both sides of the ball, both the 7th and 8th grade teams were defeated.

The girls were forced to have a short memory and had to bounce back with Ogden coming to Burnside on Tuesday (11/28). The 7th graders showed resilience throughout the game and were rewarded for their efforts. With just 30 seconds left in regulation and the Jags down by a bucket, they were able to tie it up to send the game into overtime. Southeast Valley was determined and persistent and they were able to outscore the Bulldogs in overtime and get the win 20-14.

On the 8th grade side of things, the girls were tough and found a way to win against a strong and talented Ogden squad. Team defense would prove to be the key to success yet again for the Jags as they were able to walk away with a 23-17 win over the Bulldogs.

After four complete games, the seventh grade squad holds a record of 2 wins and 2 losses while the eighth grade boasts a 3 and 1 record.

The Jaguars are back in action next week with two games against Manson Northwest Webster (home) and East Sac County (away).
