SV Boys Track @ Greene County Invite
The Southeast Valley boys’ track & field team had another strong performance at the Greene County Coed Early Bird meet in Jefferson on Friday, April 11th. Behind 16 season best performances, nine top-10 all-time bests in school history, one meet record and one school record, the Jaguars finished 2nd overall as a team scoring 124 points. Forest City won the meet with 138.5 and host Greene County was third with 108 points. Ogden was 4th with 90 points.
Kayden Showers set a new school record in the 200m dash in a time of 22.94 to finish 3rd overall in the race. In the shuttle hurdle, the quartet of Alex Burger, Casey Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Colin Johnson set a meet record winning the race in a time of 1:04.34, missing the school record by 13 hundredths of a second to remain second all-time in school history.
The 4 x 100m relay team of Dreyvon Steadman, Bryce Harrison, Kayden Showers and Logan Jaeschke also earned themselves a gold medal running a time of 44.55. Alex Burger also claimed the top finish in the 400m low hurdles. His time of 57.86 was 4th best in school history.
Colin Johnson ran the 3rd fastest 400m dash time in school history finishing 2nd with a 53.44 while Dreyvon Steadman also picked up the silver medal in the 100m dash in a new career best time of 11.49.
A couple of third place finishers also rewrote the record books. Freshman Deegan Brandel took 3rd place in the discus throw with a career best of 125-09” which broke Aaron Graves’ freshman record. In the 1600m run, Lincoln Akins also took 3rd in a career best 5:05.93 that moved him to 8th all-time in that event. Casey Hanson took 3rd in the 400m hurdles in 1:02.38 that puts him 10th best in school history.
Owen Nuss ran to a career best 5:13.22 to finish 4th place overall in the 1600m run. Along with Bryce Harrison, Logan Jaeschke and Alex Burger, Owen anchored their 1600m distance medley to a 4th place finish as well in a season best time of 3:54.73.
Other fourth place finishers were Alex Burger (long jump, 19-01.5”), Kolton Ollinger (110m High hurdles, 17.00, PR), Dreyvon Steadman (200m dash, 23.65) as well as the 4 x 800m relay team (Drew Dorsey, Ethan Tucker, Landon Vote, Lincoln Akins) in a season best time of 9:19.48 and the 4 x 400m relay team (Kolton, Logan, Kayden, Colin) with a season best of 3:38.63.
Other season best performances on Friday night were Kolton Ollinger (HJ, 5-05”, 6th), Joe Kauffman (Discus, 98-10” & Shot Put, 36-04”), Evan Frana (Shot Put, 30-11”), Logan Jaeschke (200m, 23.85, 5th), Bryce Harrison (200m, 24.32, 6th) and Trennis Stevens (400m hurdles, 1:08.75).
The Jaguars will compete in their home boys’ invitational in Gowrie on Monday, April 14th and then head to Manson on Thursday, April 17th. They will return to Gowrie on Tuesday, April 22nd for the Southeast Valley coed.
