Boys Varsity and JV Track Compete in Manson
The Southeast Valley boys’ track teams traveled to Manson on a windy Tuesday, April 23rd for a boys only meet. The meet was split into a varsity and JV division. On the varsity side, the Jaguars finished 2nd overall in the team standings with 89, finishing behind only class 3A Carroll who won the meet with 128 points. The Jaguars edged out conference foe SCC who was third with 82 points, St. Edmond with 81 points and Manson NW with 75 points.
Aden Jepsen was the lone gold medalist for the Jaguars with a personal best of 41-07” in the shot put. Jace Hanson picked up a pair of silver medals in the hurdle events running 16.76 in the 110m high hurdles and 59.40 in the 400m low hurdles.
Four of the six relay events also took 2nd place finishes. The shuttle hurdle team of Isaiah Ihrig, Colin Johnson, Gauge Jones, and Jace Hanson ran 1:09.73 which put them as the 7th fastest shuttle hurdle in SV history. Casey Hanson, Brady Hanson, Kayden Showers and Logan Jaeschke ran 1:38.09 in the 4 x 200m relay.
Dreyvon Steadman led off the 4 x 100m relay with Brady, Kayden and Logan to finish in 46.13. Finally, running the 9th fastest 4 x 400m relay in school history was Isaiah Ihrig, Owen Nuss, Logan Jaeschke and Colin Johnson in a season best of 3:42.24.
Taking an individual bronze medal was Isaiah Ihrig in the 400m dash with a 10th best school time of 55.46. Three different Jaguars took 4th place overall. They were Alex Burger (Long Jump, 18-05”), Dreyvon Steadman (100m, 12.25) and Colin Johnson (400m hurdles, 1:00.78).
Oscar Hanson picked up a fifth place finish for the Jaguars in the 3200m running a season best of 11:07.08 while Owen Nuss took 5th in the 800m run with a PR of 2:15.59 which also put him on the school’s top ten list in the 800 at 9th. Kolton Ollinger (Long Jump, 17-1.5”), Ethan Tucker (800m, 2:18.75) and Drew Dorsey (1600m, 5:54.35) also had season best performances on Tuesday.
The varsity team will compete in the Twin Lakes Conference meet on Tuesday, April 30th in Emmetsburg before heading to Lake City on Thursday, May 2nd.
JV
The Jaguars’ JV team was able to leave the meet as the JV division champions. Southeast Valley managed to score 87 points to finish 4 points ahead of 2nd place Carroll.
The Jaguars were able to claim four first place finishes in the JV division. Colin Johnson won the long jump with his personal best jump of 16-11” while Casey Hanson set the freshman record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.72 to claim gold.
Two relays were able to also cross the finish line 1st. Kagan Vangilder, Bryce Harrison, Logan Bintz and Spencer Peterson ran a 4:27.41 to win the 1600m medley relay and Jace Nelson, Gauge Jones and Riley Fawcett claimed gold in the 4 x 100m relay with a time of 49.96.
Jace, Gauge and Riley were the first three legs of the 800 sprint medley that was anchored by Spencer Peterson to take 3rd place overall in a time of 1:52.51.
Also finishing 3rd was a pair of throwers. Ian Brunner’s best throw of 83-04’ in the discus and Joe Kauffman’s throw of 32-07” in the shot put won them both bronze medals. Kaden Wellman took 3rd in the 400m run with a season best of 1:08.05.
Alex Burger took 2nd place in the 200m dash in 26.64 while teammate Preston Kennedy ran a season best of 27.63 in the same event.
The 4 x 400m relay of Ian Brunner, Oscar Hanson, Ethan Tucker and Ben Thompson also took 2nd place with a time of 4:01.46.
Jace Nelson took 5th in the 100m dash (13.48) and Oliver Riehl took 6th in the 800m run (2:42.57).
The JV team will finish up its season on April 26th at Lake City.
