Boys Track -- Twin Lakes Conference Meet
After a postponement of the 2024 Twin Lakes Conference track meet from Tuesday to Thursday, May 2nd, the Southeast Valley boys’ track team headed to Emmetsburg where they repeated as the boys’ track and field runner up in the team race. Alta- Aurelia got out to an early start in the team race and held on to the top spot the entire meet scoring 118 points. The Jaguars 90 points was enough to edge Sioux Central’s 89.5 for second and third respectively. South Central was a close 4th place with 86 and host Emmetsburg was 5th with 78.5.
While Southeast Valley was not able to claim any conference champions at the meet, the Jaguars were able to secure two runner up finishes with their shuttle hurdle and 4 x 100m relays. The quartet of Isaiah Ihrig, Colin Johnson, Casey Hanson and Jace Hanson ran the shuttle in a time of 1:05.56. Dreyvon Steadman, Logan Jaeschke, Kayden Showers, and Jace Hanson also took the silver medal in the 4 x100 in a season best time of 45.06.
Winning the bronze medal were Dreyvon, Logan, Kayden and Colin in the 4 x 200m relay also running a season best of 1:36.23. Jace Hanson picked up a third place finish in the 400m hurdles in a time of 58.56 and Alex Burger had a season best jump in the long jump of 19’ 2” to claim third place as well.
Fourth place finishes went to Isaiah Ihrig (400m, 54.63) and Jace Hanson (110m hurdles, 16.19) and the quartet of Isiah, Owen Nuss, Casey Hanson, and Colin Johnson in the 4x 400m relay (3:44.45).
Fifth place finishes were Aden Jepsen (shot put, 41’ 2”), Kolton Ollinger (long jump, 17’ 11.5”), Oscar Hanson (3200m run, 11:04.61), Alex Burger (400m, 55.27), and Colin Johnson (400m hurdles, 1:00.78). Dreyvon Steadman (100m, 11.95), Bryce Harrison (High Jump, 5’ 4”), and Logan Jaeschke (200m, 24.27) and the 4 x 800m team of Owen Nuss, Ethan Tucker, Ben Thompson and Ian Brunner (9:34.89) brought home 6th place finishes.
Oscar Hanson and Aden Jepsen were also double place winners taking 7th in the 1600m run (5:05.62) and discus (105’ 5”) respectively. Kolton Ollinger, Gauge Jones, Casey Hanson and Oscar Hanson took 8th in the 1600m medley relay (4:09.35).
The Jaguars had 14 season best times on the night. Logan Bintz (3200m, 12:24.56), Kayden Showers (100m, 12.08) and Oliver Riehl (1600m, 5:53.41) had season best times although they did not place.
The Jaguars will next compete at Sac City on Monday, May 6th before heading to Story City on Thursday, May 9th for their 2A State Qualifying meet to determine state qualifiers for the Iowa State track & field championships in Des Moines on May 16th, 17th and 18th.
