Jag Boys Compete at Drake Relays
The Southeast Valley boys’ track & field team had two events qualify this past weekend for the Drake Relays in Des Moines. Kaleb Scott qualified for the high jump on Friday. Kaleb cleared 6-07 jump before missing 6-09 which was the winning jump. Kaleb finished 5th overall in the event which featured the best jumpers in the state of Iowa in all classes. He was also the top class 2A finisher in the field.
On Saturday morning, the 4 x 100m team of Carl Berglund, Kaleb Scott, Kolson Kruse and Tre Fisher competed in the 96 team field. The Jaguars ran their second best time of the season in 45.03 to finish 71st overall and the 10th highest class 2A team in the field.
The annual Drake Relays in Des Moines is one of America’s most prestigious track meet featuring many of the top collegiate athletes from the country as well as many professional and former olympic athletes as well as the state of Iowa’s best high school runners.
“To qualify for the Drake Relays from a 2A school is a great honor. A lot of people outside of track don’t realize why the Drake Relays are such a big deal, but unlike the state meet where you qualify by class and school size, the Drake Relays take the best of all classes,” commented Coach Nuss. “So to have Kaleb Scott finish 5th down there means he’s one of the best in the state in all classes, not just class 2A.”
