Boys Track -- East Sac Relays

In Sac City on Monday, May 6th, the Southeast Valley boys’ track team put together one of their best team finishes of the season when they claimed the team title at the East Sac Relays by a margin of 28 points. Ridge View was second with 99 points, followed by SCC (89) and East Sac County (83). This was the second team title for the Jaguars of the season.

The victory was powered by claiming six gold medals, four which were relay titles, 14 season best performances and one school record. Senior Jace Hanson took the gold in both the 110m and 400m hurdle events. His time of 15.32 in the highs broke the Southeast Valley school record while he recorded a 59.90 in the 400m lows.

Jace also anchored two of the winning relay teams to gold medals as well, to claim 4 golds on the night. In the shuttle hurdle, Isaiah Ihrig, Colin Johnson and Casey Hanson joined Jace to run a winning time of 1:05.63. The winning time of 45.76 in the 4 x 100m relay was recorded by Dreyvon Steadman, Logan Jaeschke, Kayden Showers and Jace Hanson.  

Dreyvon, Logan, Kayden and Casey teamed up to win the 4 x 200m relay in 1:37.98 while Isaiah, Casey, Logan and Colin’s 3:49.76 was good enough to win the 4 x 400m relay as well.

Colin and Isaiah also took 1st and 2nd in the 400m dash running 56.48 and 57.24 respectively while Dreyvon (11.67) and Kayden (11.75) ran season bests going 4th and 5th in the 100m dash. Kayden also ran as season best in the 200m dash in 24.27 to take 3rd, edging Logan who finished 4th in 24.54. Alex Burger just missed 2nd in the 400m hurdles behind Jace running a season best 1:02.80 to claim bronze. He also took 5th in the long jump (17-06”).

Steven Fisher picked up 3rd place in the discus (119-10”) while Aden Jepsen took 6th shot put (41-08”) and 6th in the discus (108-11”). Owen Nuss was 4th in the 1600m run with a season best of 5:16.31 and also led off the 4 x 800m quartet of Oscar Hanson, Drew Dorsey and Ethan Tucker. The 4 x 800m relay finished 3rd in 9:27.62.  

Sixth place finishes were also recorded by Ian Brunner (high jump, 5-06”), Kolton Ollinger (long jump, 17-01”), Oscar Hanson (800m, 2:18.83) as well as the 1600m medley relay which ran 4:28.62 (Owen Nuss, Bryce Harrison, Ian Brunner, Spencer Peterson).

Other season bests were Joe Kauffman (discus, 84-07”), Kyle Eastman (discus, 81-09”), Ian Brunner (shot put, 37-08”), Oliver Riehl (3200m, 13:06.00), Jace Nelson (100m, 13.03), and Gauge Jones (200m, 26.98).

The Jaguars will compete at Story City in the class 2A state qualifying meet on May 9th. The top two finishers and next best eight will qualify for the Iowa State Championships in Des Moines on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 16th - 20th.
