Boys Track & Field @ UNI Indoor Meet
Monday night, March 10th, the Southeast Valley boy’s track & field team headed to Cedar Falls to start the 2025 season competing in the Dickinson Relays held in the UNI-Dome. Despite missing three days of practice last week due to the blizzard, the boys’ team started the season off strong in their first indoor meet of the season on a night that could easily have been great weather for an outdoor meet.
The top performance of the night was the 4 x 200m relay quartet of Kayden Showers, Logan Jaeschke, Bryce Harrison and Dreyvon Steadman whose 1:37.40 was strong enough for 18th overall in a field of 73 teams from all classes. Dreyvon, Kayden and Logan also set three all-time top ten finishes in the 60m dash. Dreyvon’s 7.36 is 2nd best in school history while Kayden’s 7.53 is 4th and Logan’s 7.63 is 7th best overall. Logan also finished the 200m dash in a time of 24.38 with Bryce not far behind in 25.40.
Alex Burger also found himself with a pair of top ten school best time running a 9.20 in the 60m hurdles for the 3rd fastest time and improved his own 10th fastest time in the 400m dash running 55.18. Colin Johnson was slightly behind Alex in the 400m dash running a 55.58. Alex also competed in the long jump (18-3.75”) and Colin in the 200m dash (25.89). Kolton Ollinger also found a top-ten school best in the 60m hurdles crossing the finish in 9.91 seconds. Kolton also competed in the long jump (17-3.25).
The trio of Ian Brunner, Joe Kauffman and Kyle Eastman competed in the shot put. Ian and Joe both set new PRs in the shot with throws of 40-1.25” and 34-1.25” respectively. Kyle Eastman’s best throw was 26-1”.
Owen Nuss was the top runner in the 800m run in a time of 2:18.56. Also, in the 800m run was Grant Farnham (2:47.05) and Caden Kaltschnee (2:53.59). Owen anchored the 4 x 800m team that was led off by Ethan Tucker, followed by Logan Bintz and Drew Dorsey. The four runners finished the race in a time of 9:56.61.
Several Jaguars will hopefully get to compete in the Iowa Track Coaches Association Indoor State Championships on Thursday, March 13th, while most of the team will compete at Humboldt next Friday, March 21st.
