SV at Pocahontas Area Cross Country Meet in Pocahontas, October 5th
The Southeast Valley cross country teams continue their improvement on the season on Saturday, October 5th at the Pocahontas Area Cross Country Meet in Pocahontas. Competing against all of the conference teams on Saturday along with non-conference Ridge View, the girls’ team were able to finish 8th place finish while the boys took 6th place overall, both teams finishing ahead of three Twin Lakes Conference Schools.
Winning the girls team race was Ridge View with 58 points, 2nd was Sioux Central with 74 points and scoring 122 points was South Central Calhoun. In the boys’ standings was Sioux Central taking the title with 45 points, Manson Northwest Webster 2nd with 73 points and scoring 100 points was Alta-Aurelia to take third.
Owen Nuss ran a 33 second career PR (18:13) to take medalist honors with 13th place and Lincoln Akins improved his career best by 2 seconds (18:26) to finish 15th overall. Owen’s time is the 12th fastest overall time in school history and the 5th fastest by a sophomore. Katie Field (27th) had a career PR of 23:29 which improved her 11th fastest time in school history and was the 5th fastest time by a junior for the girls.
The Jaguars had a total of 14 PRs in the meet on Saturday. Along with Nuss, Akins, and Field they were Kayden Showers (51st, 21:21), Grant Farnham (52nd, 21:21), Caden Kaltschnee (58th, 21:46), Carter Ganoe (22:26, 67th), Ben Wanat (83rd, 26:52), Kaleb Klein (91st, 31:07), Autumn Jones-Popp (33rd, 24:18), Brooke Peterson (41st, 25:12), Meia Hefley (43rd, 25:36) and Amelia Christensen (71st, 31:56).
Hailey Rees (44th, 25:44), Abbi Tucker (69th, 30:42), Drew Dorsey (39th, 20:08), and Kyeo Augustine (47th, 20:54) ran season bests. Carver Peterson (48th, 21:00), Logan Bintz (61st, 21:20), Oliver Riehl (68th, 22:32) and Evan Kuhn (86th, 26:05) also competed strong for the Jaguars on Saturday.
The Jaguars will next compete at Lake City on Tuesday, October 8th before looking to finish their regular season at the Twin Lakes Conference meet in Emmetsburg on Thursday, October 17th. Their class 2A state qualifying meet for varsity will be on Thursday, October 24th with the location to be determined next week.
