After the Jaguars first cross country meet of the season was postponed, the Southeast Valley cross country teams competed in their first meet of the season at Webster City. Running against teams from all classes at the Lynx Invitational meet on Monday, August 28th, both Jaguar varsity teams finished 6th place in their respective divisions.

Senior Oscar Hanson was the top finisher for the Jaguars finishing 7th overall in the Gold (Small School) division with a time of 19:34. Southeast Valley senior Carter Ferry finished his first cross country meet since his freshman year in a time of 20:52 (24th). Freshmen Owen Nuss in his first career high school meet and sophomore Drew Dorsey were the next two Southeast Valley harriers to cross the finish line in 21:28 (31st) and 21:30 (32nd) respectively. Lincoln Akins (21:54, 36th), Ethan Tucker (22:29, 41st) and Dreyvon Steadman (22:52, 57th) completed the varsity line up for the meet.  

On the girls’ side, newcomers Brooke Peterson, sophomore and Autumn Jones-Popp, junior were the top Jaguar to finish the 5k running 27:48 (28th) and 27:52 (29th) respectively. Senior Chloe Parks marked her return to the team with a 32nd place finish running 28:39. Sophomore Katie Field was next in 30:45 (41st), followed by junior Hailey Rees (31:05, 43rd) and Alexis Peterson (33:46, 48th).  

The Jaguars also had several athletes running in the JV division Monday. Emma Gernhart finished in 32:25 while teammate Abbi Tucker crossed the finish line in 35:41 to represent the Jaguars. Competing for the boys in the JV race were Grant Smith (22:35), Kyeo Augustine (25:08), Ben Thompson (25:56) and Evan Kuhn (31:30). Neither JV team had a team score as five runners needed to finish the race to record a team score.

Southeast Valley will next compete in their postponed home meet which is now scheduled for Tuesday, September 5th at the Gowrie Country Club before heading to Jefferson for the Greene County Ram Invitation on Saturday, September 9th.
