‘23 Article - XC TLC Conference
The Southeast Valley cross country teams had to wait a couple extra days for this year’s Twin Lakes Conference cross country meet at Alta after rain postponed it from Thursday to Saturday, October 14th. Saturday morning still brought damp, muddy conditions for the meet.
Senior Oscar Hanson became a four time Twin Lakes Conference medalist on Saturday, when he finished 11th place overall at the meet. Oscar became the first four time conference medalist for the Jaguars as he finished the course in a time of 18:27.
Along with Oscar, Owen Nuss (22nd, 19:52), Carter Ferry (25th, 20:17), Lincoln Akins (26th, 20:21) and Dreyvon Steadman (31st, 20:38) helped Southeast Valley to a 5th place finish overall in the boys team race. Dreyvon’s time was a career best time. Class 2A 8th ranked East Sac won the meet with 33 points, followed by Sioux Central with 47 points and Manson NW with 82 points.
Also competing in the boys race for the Jaguars were Drew Dorsey (39th, 21:52), Kyeo Augustine (42nd, 22:15), Cole Lundgren (48th, 22:50), Ben Thompson (57th, 23:49), Caden Kaltschnee (62nd, 26:25) and Evan Kuhn (67th, 28:12).
In the girls’ race, Katie Field continues to lead the team, finishing the course in a time of 24:37 which was good enough for 26th place. Along with Katie, Brooke Peterson (42nd, 26:21), Hailey Rees (45th, 26:38), Autumn Jones-Popp (46th, 26:52) and Alexis Peterson (56th, 29:23), the team finished 7th overall in the team race.
Alta-Aurelia won the team title with 40 points in the girls’ race, followed by Sioux Central with 65 points and South Central Calhoun with 77 points.
This was the last meet of the year for the JV runners. The top 7 Varsity runners will compete this Thursday, October 19th at Pella, hosted by Pella Christian, at the class 2A state qualifying meet. The top 3 teams and approximately top 15 individuals will qualify for the state meet at Fort Dodge on Saturday, October 28th, 2023.
