Varsity Football vs Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

The Jaguar football team wins a nail bitter and moves to 2-1 on the season by defeating Clarion Goldfield 20-13

The Jags started on offense but were forced to punt just after 3 plays.

The Jags defense was stout right off the bat and forced Clarion to punt after 2 plays.

The Jags offense put a 11 play drive together but could not put it into the endzone.

Jags defense forces second straight 3 and out and just like that it was the end of the 1st quarter 0-0

Jags offense put another 11 play drive together with runs from Cale Vansickle and Brady Hanson with great blocking from the line and Cale Vansickle was stuffed at the 1 yard line and bounced it outside and completely runs over the defender for the TD and the Jags led 6-0

Clarion bounced right back as the Jags defender slipped and fell and Clarion found the wide open guy for a 63 yard TD and made the PAT and took a 7-6 lead.

Jags offense put together a 14 play drive with a lot of runs early and the Cale Vansickle hit Brady Hanson on 4th and 7th for a much needed first down and the Cale Vansickle hit Logan Jaeschke for the TD and the Jags led 12-7 at half. The screen to Brady was set up very nicely by the line for this to work the way it did.

The second half was not the start the Jags were looking for. Clarion returned the opening kickoff 20 yards and on their first play they ran in a 54 yard TD and just like that the Jags were down 13-12.

On the next drive the Jags found themselves at 3rd and very long so instead of trying to force a throw the Jags gave it to Brady Hanson and he ran it for a first down which really broke Clarions back. Next play Cale Vansickle runs for a 56 yard TD and also runs in the 2 point conversion and the Jags lead 20-13.

The rest of the game was back and forth and the Jags defense stayed strong the rest of the game by only allowing 4 total first downs the entire game. Coach Graves had a great game plan and the boys executed it perfectly.

This was a great win for the boys. The boys are dealing with some injuries so we really need some younger kids to step up and be ready to play.
