Roland Story Norsemen Varsity Tournament

Seven Jag wrestlers headed East to battle in the expanded twenty team tournament in a very tough tournament at Story City in the Norseman Invite held on Saturday, December 20th. Freshman Wyatt Blair(120 lbs) was the lone placewinner finishing in 7th place, Freshman Colton Haug(150 lbs) went 2-2, ending his day one match shy of placing. Junior Colin Johnson(138 lbs) went 1-2, Freshman Keelan Wellman(126 lbs), lost a close match to finish his day and Junior Oliver Riehl, Junior Brodey Laughman(175 lbs), and Kyle Eastman(215 lbs) finished the day 0-2.

This tournament has become really tough as Colin and Brodey had to open the tournament with the #1 ranked wrestlers in 2A in the opening round. The other guys also faced some tough challenges in the opening round. Our guys are learning how to wrestle at this level. They still struggle in the down position, giving up position and getting turned. Even though it was a tough day for the guys, they made some strides. Coln pinned an opponent he lost to earlier at the Gilbert Duals, Wyatt rattled off three straight wins to place second, and Colton won two matches after his first round loss.
